Programs: Undergraduate Medical Education Initiative

In order to keep their future patients healthy, medical students must learn about reproductive health topics like abortion, contraception, STIs, and sexual assault. The goal of PRCH’s Undergraduate Medical Education Initiative (UMED) is to increase evidence-based sexual and reproductive health education in undergraduate medical education curricula.  UMED aims to advocate for curricular change on four levels: accreditation, licensing/testing, faculty/institutions, and students.

UMED offers PRCH physician members the opportunity to share their experiences in reproductive health and offers students a chance to learn about professional practice, training, and patient care.  Throughout the academic year, UMED sponsors lectures at medical schools, conferences, student group meetings, and other training institutions to educate students on topics not currently taught at those institutions and to teach students how to advocate for change on the four levels.

If you are a pro-choice physician who is interested in speaking to a local medical student group and sharing your experiences and expertise, please contact Penny Vick at penny@prch.org or 646-649-9930.

Medical student groups and medical schools can also contact Penny Vick to arrange for a presentation.
