PRCH Helps Physicians Change Policy

PRCH provides opportunities for physicians to get involved in local, state, and federal public policy issues. PRCH physicians are the best messengers to provide medically accurate information on reproductive health issues to lawmakers and the public. With PRCH, your voice can be heard!

PRCH supports policies that promote reproductive healthcare for all, including increased access to birth control, emergency contraception, and abortion services, as well as comprehensive sex education. High-Risk Patients Need Abortion Coverage! [2]

Douglas Laube, MDBy prohibiting abortion coverage, the Obama administration's policy on high-risk insurance pools will hurt women. Email the White House today! Tell President Obama to help women stay healthy. [3]

PRCH board chair Douglas Laube, MD, MEd, explains the danger: "Many women entering the high risk pools have underlying medical problems, like cancer and diabetes, that make pregnancy risky. They must have abortion available as a backup if their birth control fails, or if a planned pregnancy unexpectedly threatens their health, as happened to me when a kidney transplant patient experienced dangerously high blood pressure in her third month of pregnancy." PRCH Physician Helps Convince FDA to Approve New EC [12]

June 17, 2010
After a hearing today, the FDA's Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs voted unanimously to recommend quick FDA approval for ulipristal acetate, a new form of emergency contraception. Leadership Training Academy alum Sara Imershein, MD, testified before the committee: "We know that more emergency contraception options will improve our care for women."
