In His Own Words
As a young physician, Dr. William Kohlmann Rashbaum was regularly called upon to attend to women who had been seriously injured by illegal abortions. Following the legalization of abortion, he performed abortions in New York City and taught the procedure to thousands of medical students and residents, as well as practicing physicians around the country. He also trained hundreds of physicians to handle the most complex and challenging cases that arise in the later stages of pregnancy and is responsible for training a large percentage of the people who do these procedures—not only in New York, but in surrounding states.
In His Own Words was written shortly before Dr. Rashbaum’s death in 2005.

“Why do I provide [abortions]? ... Because nothing gives me greater satisfaction than having a woman walk scared and sad into my office, and watching her leave unburdened and relieved.”
Katharine O’Connell, MD, MPH, from “Why I Provide”
